Game On!

PLAYWORKS is a national organization that believes in the power of play to bring out the best in every child.

Principals report that nearly all discipline related problems in school occur during lunch and recess.  Instead of going back to class energized and ready to learn, kids return to class upset and unable to focus.

Carefully organized play can change this.  Recess should be fun and energetic and safe and inclusive for everyone.  When recess becomes a healthy, integral part of the school day, kids carry that positive experience with them beyond the playground.

Thanks to Playworks and GAME ON!, our kids are becoming leaders.  They run their own games and settle disputes quickly (rock paper scissors is our conflict resolution tool) because getting along is more fun than fighting.

Where bullying and bad feelings once prevailed, kids play hard, cheer loud, and high five with joy.  And they carry a feeling of empowerment and belonging with them into their classrooms, back to their neighborhoods and out into the world.

Funders help us increase the momentum that has already been started by the generosity of the Fogelson Family Foundation.

Cost per elementary school:  $45,000 per school per year.

FUNDING ARTS EDUCATION:  GRAB YOUR SEAT!

A $2 million bequest from Rozene Supple to name the Palm Springs High School auditorium “The Richards Center for the Arts” has served as the centerpiece of a larger, ongoing $5 million capital campaign.  A key element of this multi-year fundraising effort for our district’s students is the opportunity for members of the public to name a theater seat, gallery space, or other building amenity at the Richards Center for the Arts in their honor, or a loved one’s – commemorated by an elegant, personalized plaque or lettering.

There are other building amenities, common spaces, and architectural elements available, including gallery walls, lobby and vestibule areas, performers’ changing rooms, and more. They represent unique opportunities for you or your family to have century-long recognition and an inspiring presence in a Coachella Valley landmark.

To date, donors are using seat inscriptions to salute or honor children and grandchildren, memorialized love ones, or mark birthdays and anniversaries.  We will continue to promote and sell these seat inscriptions until the auditorium is fully subscribed.  A key sell to donors is that visitors and theater patrons at Valley and District cultural events will know what an important role donors are playing in the artistic and cultural life of the Valley.
